Use Homemade Dog Shampoo and Protect the Pet Dog from Bacteria and Fleas


It is always good to have homemade dog shampoo for cleaning the skin of pet dogs. By preparing the same at home it will be quite inexpensive and the dog owner can be sure about its quality. Just like the shampoo for humans, dog shampoo also should be free of harsh chemicals like PEG, SLES, SLS etc. The chemical ingredients may cause skin allergy, corneal ulcer etc. Dog shampoo is to be made of purely natural ingredients that are biodegradable. The simplest type of homemade dog shampoo can be made by mixing antibacterial liquid hand soap, glycerin and white vinegar. All these ingredients may be mixed in warm water and the mixture can be used as the shampoo for the pet dog. The liquid hand soap eliminates the bacteria on the fur of the dog thereby neutralizing the bad odor. Glycerin has the property to make the coat soft and shiny whereas the vinegar protects the skin from itching by way of balancing the pH level. Homemade dog shampoo protects the dog from the harsh detergents that are present in the shampoo bought from the stores. The shampoo may be prepared in large quantity at home and can be kept in airtight jars in case there are a number of pet dogs.


Oatmeal shampoo

The dogs usually scratch its skin due to severe itching. The reasons for itching can be allergy, fleas, dry skin etc. If rashes are found on the skin it may be due to flea bites. Giving regular bath using best quality shampoo can give relief to the dog from itching and other skin irritations. Oatmeal shampoo is the best remedy for all skin allergies, itching etc. and it is a popular homemade dog shampoo.

Preparation and application of oatmeal shampoo

One cup of the oatmeal is to be ground to make it a fine powder. It is to be mixed with half cup of baking soda. The mixture is to be kept in an airtight container. At the time of giving a bath to the pet dog the oatmeal - baking soda mixture may be added to warm water and the powder is made to dissolve by continued stirring.
After wetting the fur of the dog the oatmeal shampoo is poured over its body and apply massage. In case of a small puppy, it can be immersed into the bath up to the shoulder so that the skin is uniformly soaked. Extreme care must be taken to prevent the homemade dog shampoo from getting into the eyes and ears of the dog. After massaging the shampoo thoroughly over the skin rinse the dog well to remove the shampoo completely. There should be no residue of oatmeal or baking soda on the skin after the bath. Giving a regular bath to the dog using this type of a homemade dog shampoo keeps the skin of the dog healthy as well as shiny and there will be no bad smell coming from the skin. The dog is also protected from itching and other types of skin irritation.

There are various recipes for homemade dog shampoo. The dog owners can do experiments with different types of homemade dog shampoo that contains different ingredients. Mixing liquid Castile soap, vinegar and water is another recipe for making the shampoo. The shampoo can be mixed with essential oils also like lavender oil or orange oil. These essential oils have antibacterial properties and also their characteristic odor can repel fleas and mosquitos.
